An Analysis on the UK General Election

Latest Update:

UK has a hung parliament now. Even though the Conservative has won the election but it need to strike out a partnership with other parties (presumably with DUP) but how its can last?

Whether  Theresa May has the right to be continued as the Prime Minister of UK even though she fails to get mandate from people of UK?

In my view, there will be another election in near future (my guess only) because the current set up of Parliament is unsustainable.

If there is another snap election then I strongly believe Labour Party can win the election with landslide.

9/7/17                                                                                                                               Kuala Lumpur

Today the United Kingdom voters need to choose the party which going govern the country in next five years. This is the most difficult and important election for British voters.

In the space of three (3) months, UK was under siege by terrorists where more than 50 people were killed and injured more than 100 people including security people and children. The reduction of budget in relation to security issues, for example, the lessening of police force by Theresa May is blamed by Jeremy Corbyn for the upsurge of terrorist attacks in UK soil recently.

Theresa was the Home Minister during the administration of David Cameron when this decision was made. It's creates vacuum on security measures to comprehend the terrorists. This issue is became the key factor for UK voters to decide on their next government.

Even though, during her tenure as the Home Minster, she had taken tough stand on immigration issues but that measures actually have been backfired. Yesterday, she made a statement that she is willing to make major changes on human rights laws but its received lukewarm support from the public and civil liberties groups in UK.

This statement has infuriated the public because she does not addressed the root cause of terrorism in UK. The Muslim community in UK fears that when is pressed harder through legislation than this will be used by the sympathizers and supporters of the terrorist group like ISIS, Al Qaeda  and Al-Muhajiroun to legitimize their causes. In addition, these measures will alienated the Muslim community from mainstream society as of now the hate crime against this community is alarming.

The sole purpose of this snap election is for Theresa to get a good mandate from voters for her Brexit negotiations. Generally, the public perceives that she is not handling well these issues.

In addition, her inability to start the withdrawal from European Union and setting herself in a good negotiating position from the other European Union’s counterparts is been seen as the futile way of she handles this issue.

Further the strong opposition from Scotland which denounced the Brexit and wants to be part of European Union become the pivotal election issue in Scotland. The possibility to have another referendum in Scotland to decide whether the Scottish still wants to be part of UK or not is another issue the elected Prime Minster to deal with.

The cutting of public funds in NHS, universities, schools and transportation systems in UK will be another key issues to be considered by the British votes. The current conservative government policies are very much favour on cutting rather than increasing the budget of these essential public needs.

The Labour Party led by Jeremy focusing on the issues concerning the voters the most. For example, by highlighting the lacking of public funding especially in education is well received by the voters.

Further the nationalizing of water industry, increase of child benefit, creation of new bank holidays, the proposal to increase 10,000 police officers. He also wants to re-nationalize the National Grid, the railways and the Royal Mail which well received by the voters. The Labour's election manifesto is dealing the issues face by voters whereas the Conservative party's manifesto gives least emphasizes on these issues.

Another gaffe that Theresa has made by not appearing on the last TV debate. This implicates that she is not willing to face her opponents to debate on the election issues. Therefore the gap between her and Jeremy reduce substantially and the voters start to appreciate Jeremy more than Theresa.

In conclusion, Theresa was leading on the opinion polls at the beginning but she fails to materialize her position well because she did not addressed them sufficiently. By contrast, Jeremy has recognized the core issues like security, social care and education. Further he provided the solutions for the shortcoming which were well received by the voters in UK. Therefore, the UK voters probably will elect a new government. This new government will be led by the Labour party.

Kuala Lumpur.

Terrorism in Africa

According to state.gov, ISIS was defeated a few years ago. However, the organization's presence and existence remain conspicuous in Africa. Ongoing conflicts in Somalia, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso demonstrate that ISIS has shifted its focus away from Iraq and Syria. Although ISIS lacks a clear hierarchy like Al-Qaeda, its followers and supporters wholeheartedly believe in its strong ideology. In 2014, the United States led the formation of a broad international coalition known as 'The Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS' to combat the organization during the height of the Syrian and Iraqi conflict. The primary objectives of this 83-member coalition are to degrade and defeat ISIS, which poses a threat to international peace and security. ISIS has brought thousands of foreign fighters from around the world to combat zones like Syria and Iraq, and it has used technology to promote its violent extremist ideology and instigate terrorist attacks. For example, t

Sedition Act 1948 should have been repealed a long time ago. But why?

THE Sedition Act 1948 is a legislative measure that was enacted in Malaysia during the colonial era, designed to curb any form of speech or expression that was deemed to be seditious in nature with the aim of maintaining public order and security. The Sedition Act has been subject to much debate and criticism, with some arguing that it is a violation of freedom of speech and expression. Despite this, the Act remains in force in Malaysia to this day, albeit with some amendments made over the years. Although I concur with the abolition of this Act, it is imperative that a comparable new legislation be enacted to address the escalating prevalence of racially and religiously bigoted remarks that have been unsettling our distinctive multicultural and multi-religious society as of late. An instance that exemplifies the prudent decision-making of the governing body is the substitution of the Internal Security Act of 1960 with the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA). THE HISTORY OF TERRORISM: MORE THAN 200 YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT

The history of terrorism dates back at least 1500 years when Jewish resistance groups (66 - 72 A.D.) known as Zealots killed Roman soldiers and destroyed Roman property. The term assassin comes from a Shi'ite Muslim sect (Nizari Isma'ilis - also known as hashashins "hashish-eaters") fighting Sunni Muslims (1090 - 1275) and during Medieval Christendom resisting occupation during the Crusades (1095-1291). The hashashins were known to spread terror in the form of murder, including women and children. The brotherhood of Assassins committed terror so as to gain paradise and seventy-two virgins if killed and to receive unlimited hashish while on earth. The modern development of terrorism began during the French Revolution's Reign of Terror (1793 - 1794). During this period the term terrorism was first coined. Through the past two hundred years, terrorism has been used to achieve political ends and has developed as a tool for liberation, oppression, and i
