FSB kills suspected militants, foiling terror attack

Russia’s security service, the FSB, killed two suspected militants and detained a third in the Moscow region town of Orekhovo-Zuyevo, RIA Novosti reported on Monday, citing the National Anti-Terrorist Committee.

“During an active special operation, the militants were surrounded, but opened fire when they were told to surrender,” read an official statement from the National Anti-Terrorist Committee cited by RIA Novosti. “During the armed clash, two were destroyed, one was detained.”

According to the Committee, the suspected militants were planning a terror attack in central Moscow. They are reported to be Russian citizens, but trained for the operation in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
