The United States presidential election: My viewpoint

Tomorrow is a big day for Americans. They have to choose a president. Either candidates well received by them. A clown against a goon. Who is who, I leave it to you. Americans are at the crossroads. The polls indicate that both candidates edge each other with tiny majority. It's a difficult call. In my view, even though Hilary seems to be winning but I swing to Trump because the ground sentiments switching in favour of him at this  moment. Even he seems to be difficult but Americans are accepting his openness more compare to Hilary who they regarded as very political. Nationalism against globalism. In a nutshell there will be a little surprise that Trump going win this election. This means, Americans have vote to protect the nation's sovereignty and superiority against others. 7.11.16 Kuala Lumpur.

An open letter to Dr S Subramaniam

This Sunday MIC is going to have its 70th general assembly. After Dr S Subramaniam consolidated his power by sidelining his predecessor, he is moving to another phase of transition as the leader of the oldest Indian Malaysian political party in the government of Malaysia. As a member of this community, I would like to know what kind of direction he wants to bring to this political party and what are his plans to elevate this community’s economically and socially. His predecessors, except for VT Sambanthan, had discussed the same issues in every assembly on citizenship, Tamil schools, and temples without any substantive results. Does Dr Subramaniam want to follow their footsteps or depart from them to show his leadership potential. Even though some of these issues are still relevant and need to be resolved urgently, it is time for him to move away from these issues and focus on the matters which are much more important to safeguard the position and interest of the Indian Malaysi...

Tetapi ke mana sebenarnya duit (sumbangan orang ramai) disalurkan? Apa tujuannya? “Oleh itu, saya rasa sudah tiba masa untuk pihak berkuasa menjalankan pengawasan. “Kita ada jabatan zakat untuk kutip zakat dan kita tahu ke mana sumbangkan itu disalurkan. Dari segi transaksi semua maklumat jelas, pemberi serta penerimanya. Tetapi bagi pengutip derma (di pasar dan bank) kita tak tahu,” katanya ketika dihubungi FMT hari ini. ...

Expert: Send terrorists to uninhabited island

By  Nawar Firdaws PETALING JAYA: A terrorism expert has proposed the isolation of known terrorists and their sympathisers on an uninhabited island until they are rehabilitated. This would prevent prevent them from influencing other inmates in regular prisons with their ideologies, said R Paneir Selvam in an interview with FMT. “Allowing them interaction with other inmates is very dangerous,” he said. “They may inspire others to commit terror acts as well.” Paneir, who is the Chairman of the Association of Legal and Policy Researchers, noted that Malaysia had a system of isolation of criminals in the 1960s and 1970s, when Pulau Jerejak served as a penal colony. Hardcore criminals were sent there for rehabilitation before they were transferred. “Bukit Aman’s counter-terrorism branch has been arresting more and more Malaysian IS members and sympathisers, and the number is growing,” he said. “Rather than placing them in a normal prison where they are allowed to mix around...

Expert: IS may only be testing the waters for now

By  Nawar Firdaws PETALING JAYA: Islamic State (IS) has proven to be a far-sighted organisation, having appeared to have laid down plans for all possibilities, and executing them when the right time comes. It is for this reason that the Malaysian counter-terrorism authorities should aim to always be a step ahead of the terror group, and prepare themselves for all sorts of scenarios, said terrorologist R Paneir Selvam. He also cautioned of a bigger and more organised attack in the country, saying that IS might be saving their best assets for last. “Our special branch has done a good job, but it has to bear in mind that IS may only be testing the waters at the moment, to see how effective our security forces are, while at the same time, identifying their weaknesses and areas that can be manipulated. “The real attacks may be carried out by individuals least expected to be involved in terrorism acts, profiled as someone with no criminal background, high intellect, and a lif...

According to Guardian newspaper, the three girls probably recruited by a young woman, Aqsa Mahmood, who is from Scotland now residing in Syria since 2013. These three girls were recruited through social media. The disturbing question was how they are undetected by their family members, friends, teachers and authorities before they left UK? Passengers-only rule at airports impractical, expert tells Putrajaya

By  Nawar Firdaws PETALING JAYA: Fix the current security measures before implementing new ones which may sound nice on paper, but in reality are impractical. Terrorologist R Paneir Selvam said this to FMT when commenting on Putrajaya’s proposal to allow only passengers with valid tickets entry into airport terminals for airline check-in. “While it is good that the Malaysian Government is realising the importance of having better airport security, the said measure would be impossible to implement. “It would also see Malaysian airports operating differently from all other international airports. “Why not place better security measures at all of the airport’s exit and entry points, and train all security personnel there on ways to detect any suspicious individuals and behaviour?” Paneir, who is the chairman of the Association of Legal and Policy Researchers, said a recent news report pointed out the personnel’s lack of experience and training.
